Following the CISCE's suit, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) may also reduce one-third syllabus for the classes 9 to 12. In association with the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), the CBSE will soon announce the syllabus cut due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The CBSE has asked the NCERT to cut down topics which are "either repeated or overlapped or learning outcomes related to it are being covered under other chapters". "All suggestions are based on learning outcomes", said a source.
It is speculated that "The Age of Industrialisation" in History, "Area of A Triangle and Frustum of A Cone" in Mathematics, and "Physical Properties of Metals and Non-Metals" along with "Tyndall Effect" in Science are some of the topics which may be removed from the Class 10 syllabus. For classes up to 8, schools have been given a free hand to make changes accordingly.
Last week, the CISCE also made some changes and cut down the syllabus by 25%. Topics that are removed from the CISCE syllabus include Subhas Chandra Bose and His Indian National Army, The Origin of The “Kashmir problem”, and The Janata government (1977-1979) from Class 12 Indian History. Moreover, topics such as De-colonisation of China, The Establishment of The People’s Republic, and The Oslo Peace Accords have been removed from Class 12 World History.
