UPSC CGGE Syllabus

The Union Public Service Commission has a specific curriculum for the students, appearing in the combined geo-scientist and geologist entrance exam. Check the detailed syllabus in the table below:

Mains Exam 

  • Paper I (General Studies: Common to all streams) – Current Affairs of International and National Importance, General Science, Indian and World Geography, General Issues on Whether change, Bio-diversity, and Environmental Ecology, Economic and Social Development, Indian Polity and Governance.

 

  • Paper-II (For Geology/ Hydrogeology) – Physical and Structural Geography, Mineralogy, Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology, Sedimentology, Paleontology, Stratigraphy, Economic Geology, Hydrogeology, etc.

 

  • Paper-II (Geophysics) – Solid Earth Geophysics, Mathematical Methods in Geophysics, Electromagnetism, Geophysical Prospecting, Remote Sensing and Thermodynamics, Nuclear Physics and Radiometry.

 

  • Paper-II (Chemistry) – Chemical Periodicity, Chemical Bonding and Structure, Acids and bases, Quantitative inorganic analysis and its theoretical basis, Kinetic theory and the gaseous state, Chemical Equilibrium and Chemical thermodynamics, Solutions of non-electrolytes, Electrochemistry, Basic Organic Chemistry, Stereochemistry, types of organic reactions, Molecular Rearrangements. 

  • Paper I (Geology) – Physical Geography and remote sensing, Structural geology, Sedimentology, Paleontology, Stratigraphy.

 

  • Paper-II (Geology) -Mineralogy, Geochemistry and isotope geology, Igneous Petrology, Metamorphic petrology, Geodynamics.

 

  • Paper III (Geology) - Economic geology, Mineral Economics, and Indian Mineral Deposits, Mineral Exploration, Engineering Geology, and Fuel Geology, Natural Hazards and Environmental Geology.

 

  • Hydrogeology – Groundwater movement and well hydraulics, Groundwater (Occurrence and Distribution), Water Wells and Ground Water Levels, Groundwater Exploration, Groundwater Equality.

 

  • Paper I (Geophysics) – Solid Earth Geophysics, Earthquake Seismology, Mathematical methods in Geophysics, Geophysical Inversion, Mathematical methods of Physics, Electrodynamics, Electromagnetic Theory, Space Physics, and Introductory Atmosphere.

 

  • Paper-II (Geophysics) – Potential Field Methods, Electrical Methods, Seismic Prospecting, Borehole Geophysics, Classical Mechanics, Thermodynamics, and Statistical Molecular and Atomic Physics, Particle and Nuclear Physics.

 

  • Paper III (Geology) – Airborne and Radiometric Geophysics, Geophysical Signal Processing, Geohydrology, and Remote Sensing, Basic Electronics and Solid State Physics, Laser Systems, Quantum Mechanics. 

 

  • Paper I (Chemistry) – Inorganic Solids, Chemistry of Coordination Compounds, Redox Titrations, Nuclear Chemistry, Organometallic Compounds, 

 

  • Paper-II (Chemistry) – Kinetic Theory, Solids, Electrochemistry, Quantum, and Photochemistry.

 

  • Paper III (Chemistry) –Errors in Quantitative Analysis, X-ray methods of Analysis, Oxidation-Reduction, Electro-cyclic Reactions. 

UPSC CGGE Selection Process

The UPSC bears a definite way of hiring the individuals via the combined geo-scientist entrance exam. Perceive it in the below section.

  • The first task to sit for this entrance is to apply the candidates in the UPSC's official portal to the combined geo-scientist exam successfully.

  • Next, the candidates will appear for the prelims exam and will be shortlisted based on their merit.
