The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) announced the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) examination results on Friday, June 26. The overall pass percentage witnessed a marginal fall, as 89.27% of the total students cleared the exam this year compared to last year's 89.59%. A total of 17,183 students appeared for the exams this year, out of which, 15,339 sailed through.
Following the footsteps of Assam and Chhattisgarh, girls outshone boys in Goa as well with a pass percentage of 90.44%, wheres only 87.43% of the total boys cleared the exams. As many as 9004 girls had registered for the HSSC exams, out of which, 8188 managed to clear them. The Chairman of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE), Ramakrishna Samant, expressed delight on the girl children outshining the boys.
"A majority of the students have passed in the middle range. Only 15.71 per cent have fared above 75 percentage", added Samant.
The state conducted the exams amid the COVID-19 times from May 20 to May 22, but only after the state was declared COVID-19 free on May 1. As for the pass stream-specific pass percentages, the Commerce stream boasts the highest pass percentage at 92.82%, followed by Science and Arts at 88.96% and 85.30%, respectively. "The examination was conducted amidst COVID pandemic. The government played an important role and helped the Board, and it is known under what circumstances the exam was conducted. Health was the major factor which affected all these examinations. We also opened six centres in Maharashtra and Karnataka", asserted the minister.
