Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal recently conducted a live webinar for the teachers and students and stated that Class 10th and 12th board exams will not be held in Jan-Feb 2021, as per earlier schedule. Earlier, the practical exams were to be held in January 2021 and the theory exams were to be conducted in the month of February 2021. However, owing to the current situation of COVID pandemic, there might be a delay in completing the syllabus in certain schools. Hence, it has been decided to postpone the exams from Jan-Feb 2021, until further notice. The Education Minister also ruled out the possibility of conducting the Board exams online. He said that, there is no possibility of holding the Board exam in online mode, as not every student, especially those from backward villages and rural areas, have access to internet or any digital platform. Thus, it wouldn’t be fair to conduct board exams in a mode where these students shall face difficulties.
In response to queries related to further reduction in syllabus, the Education Minister further stated that CBSE Board and other state boards have already considered the plea of students and have announced significant reduction in the syllabus. Additionally, the board exam pattern already provides internal choice for question for 33% syllabus. So, there is ample time and flexibility available to students to plan their studies for the upcoming board exams without any need for further reduction in the syllabus.
A report published by leading national media agency has quoted official sources from CBSE Board confirming that new date-sheet for Class 10th and 12th Board exams shall be announced soon.
