The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts a series of examinations to gather employees under various posts under different government departments over the country. SSC exams are conducted over regular intervals to recruit candidates in various posts. SSC examinations are conducted majorly for recruiting manpower at all Group B posts and non-technical Group C posts under ministries of the Government of India.
Settling for good jobs and having an idea of the same is as important as cracking such examinations with flying colours. Let’s take a look at the job opportunities that candidates have after clearing SSC:
Inspector (Central Excise)
You could apply for a job as an Inspector at the Central Excise department. The responsibilities of this job comprise sealing and monitoring products and identifying the evasion of taxes besides other such tasks. In case you acquire the post of an Inspector in the headquarters, your responsibilities include managing the clerical jobs around the office that mainly involves handling paperwork.
Interestingly, you could also go ahead and apply for the designations of Excise Inspector, Assistant Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Appraiser/ Superintendent, and Deputy Commissioner once you qualify as Central Excise Inspector. Lastly, inspectors at the Central Excise Departments are entitled to a salary of INR 45,000.
* Tax Assistant (Central Board of Direct Taxes)
Once you have successfully cleared the SSC exams, you could apply for the post of a Tax Assistant, working for the Central Board of Direct Taxes. Under this designation, your job responsibilities would include major paperwork and evaluation, verification, and modifications of the income tax of a person or company besides clerical work. However, if you are posted in the field of non-assessment of taxes, you will be serving for the clerical work inside the office.
For prospects, you could apply for the post of Deputy Commissioner, Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, Appraiser/ Superintendent, Joint Commissioner, Excise Inspector, and Assistant Commissioner if you are eligible for promotions. A Tax Assistant is entitled to a monthly salary of around INR 23,000 initially.
* Tax Assistant (Central Board of Excise and Customs)
You could also consider the option for applying for the post of a Tax Assistant in the Central Board of Excise and Customs after cracking SSC. Your job duties will be similar to the Tax Assistant in the Central Board of Direct Taxes.
Prospects of growth for a Tax Assistant under the Central Board of Excise and Customs department include a post in Customs, Service Tax, or Excise departments.
Lastly, talking about their compensation, the monthly salary of a Tax Assistant under the Central Board of Excise and Customs starts at INR 24,000 initially.
* Income Tax Inspector (Central Board of Direct Taxes)
If you want to apply for the post of an Income Tax Inspector’s job, you might land into either of the two departments, assessment, and non-assessment. Interestingly, you can transfer your posts between the assessment and non-assessment of the taxes section on a periodical basis.
The job description for the assessment section comprises of evaluation and assessment of the income tax of a company/individuals and process refunds if required. In case you land a job in the non-assessment section, you will have to perform clerical works besides carrying out raids, when needed.
As an Income Tax Inspector, your monthly salary will range from INR 36,000-42,000.
* Inspector (Examiner) (Central Board of Excise and Customs)
A post with limited vacancies, you can also apply for the post of an Examiner under the Central Board of Excise and Customs. Your duties under this field require you to carry out verification on the taxes imposed on products passing through different ports. Your other duties might also include you to file important documents. However, in case you land your position in CBEC headquarters, you will have to perform clerical work mostly.
The monthly salary of an Inspecting Examiner under the Central Board of Excise and Custom section ranges from INR 35,000-42,000 initially.
