SEBI Overview

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is the apex regulatory body for the securities and commodities market in India. It is controlled and owned by the Government of India. A lot of candidates appear for the recruitment exam organized by SEBI mainly due to the reputation and handsome pay scale it offers.

Exams Conducted by SEBI

SEBI conducts the recruitment exam in two phases for the post of Grade A Officer and selected candidates are placed into various departments which are as follows:

SEBI Exam Calendar

SEBI releases an official employment notification for recruiting Grade A Officers on its official portal. For 2020, the official notification was released on 7th March 2020. 

SEBI Exam Dates

The important dates for the SEBI Grade A Officer recruitment exam are as follows:

  1. The last date to apply for the SEBI Grade A Officer exam 2020 is 31st October 2020.

  2. The Phase 1 online examination for 2020 is scheduled to be held on 17th January 2021.

  3. The Phase 2 online examination for 2020 is scheduled to be held on 27th February 2021.

  4. The interview date is not yet notified.

Vacancies for SEBI Exam

Total number of vacancies are decided by the recruiting body and depends on the number of posts that require potential candidates. Total vacancies announced for recruitment in 2020 are 147 which are bifurcated as follows:

  1. General stream-80

  2. Legal stream-34

  3. Information technology- 22

  4. Engineering (civil and electrical)- 5

  5. Research- 5

  6. Official language-1

SEBI Exam Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility norms are specified in the employment notification and a candidate should check for the criteria before filing up the examination form.

  1. Age: The maximum age limit of the candidate is specified as 30 years.

  2. Educational Qualification:

  1. General stream: Master’s Degree in any discipline or Bachelors’ Degree in Law/Engineering or CA /CFA / CS / Cost Accountant.

  2. Legal stream: Bachelor degree in law

  3. IT stream: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical /
    Electronics / Electronics and Communication /IT/CS OR MCA

  4. Research stream: Master’s Degree in Statistics/ Economics / Commerce /Business Administration / Econometrics.

  5. Official language stream: Bachelor’s Degree level or Master’s Degree in Sanskrit / English /Economics / Commerce with Hindi as a subject

  6. Engineering stream: Bachelor degree in civil or electrical engineering

SEBI Exam Pattern

A candidate should always go through the exam pattern for the exam he is planning to take, in order to get a clear idea about the syllabus and subjects. SEBI Grade A Officer exam comprises of the following stages:

  1. Prelims Exam

  2. Mains Exam

  3. Personal Interview

 

  • The Phase 1 and Phase 2 each consists of two papers, of 100 marks each.

  • There is also a scheme of negative marking and one-fourth mark is deducted for each wrong answer attempted by the candidate.

Q1. What is the estimated salary of a SEBI Grade A officer?

The pay scale of SEBI Grade A officer is Rs. 28150-55600. The gross salary includes SEBI's Contribution towards National Pension Scheme (NPS), Family Allowance, Dearness Allowance, Grade Allowance, etc. 

Q2. What is the weightage of papers in SEBI Grade A 2020 Examination?

The weightage of each paper in the SEBI Grade A 2020 Examination is Paper 1 - 1/3rd and Paper 2- 2/3rd.

 

Q3. Is the candidate required to be put on probation after clearing the exam?

Yes, the candidates who are qualified for the post of Officer Grade A will have to serve a probation period of 2 years.

 

Q4. Can a candidate apply for more than 2 streams in SEBI Grade A 2020 Examination?

No, the candidate cannot apply for more than 2 streams. In case you apply for more than two streams, only the latest application shall be accepted and other application shall be rejected.
