"Candidates have to pay fees to multiple recruiting agencies and also have to travel long distances for appearing in various exams. These multiple recruitment examinations are a burden on the candidates, as also on the respective recruitment agencies, involving avoidable/repetitive expenditure, law and order/security related issues and venue related problems", cited an official statement released by the PMO.

Currently, candidates aspiring for government jobs have to apply for multiple recruitments separately and have to pay a high fee for each of them. Moreover, if a candidate clears the Prelims and fails in the Mains examination, he/she has to start again from the beginning next year. Now, with the NRA's Common Eligibility Test (CET), candidates who clear the preliminary level CET exam will be allowed to appear directly for the Mains, tier-2, or second level test of various exams. Furthermore, the CET scores will be valid for three threes. Which means, candidates who clear CET once, will be allowed to take the second level exam (Mains) thrice (once every year).
