ICSE’s announcement of 10th & 12th board exam dates has attracted repercussion from many. While the Maharashtra govt has said that it is not feasible to conduct exams, Arvind Tiwari has filed a petition against the same.
As India moves into the phase of unlocking itself, the Indian School Certificate Examination (ICSE) board has announced to conduct class 10th and 12th board exams in July. While the 10th board exams will be held from July 2 to 14, 2020, the board has announced to conduct class 12th board exams from July 1 to 14, 2020.
Even though the ICSE board promises to conduct the exams with the utmost care and follow all the necessary health precautions and guidelines, the Maharashtra govt, however, has come ahead stating the time and situation are not suitable for organising board exams right now. Advocate General Ashutosh Kumbhakoni, the steward of the Maharashtra state government at the court, cited that COVID-19 pandemic is far from over and the circumstances aren't in favour of conducting exams. The ICSE board, in exchange, asserted that the board doesn't need the state government's approval for conducting the exams.
Other developments reveal that a petition against organising the board exams in July has been filed by Arvind Tiwari. The petition quotes the increasing number of COVID-19 cases and indicates the situation to be unfit for conducting board exams in the state. From the 226 ICSE board affiliated schools in Maharashtra, 23,347 students are due to appear for the 10th board exams. Along with assessing the conditions as not feasible for conducting exams, the Maharashtra School Education Department has suggested the ICSE board to either delay the exams or award the students marks based on their past performances.
In case the exams slated in July go ahead as planned, and some of the students are not able to appear due to residing in containment zones or having a person in the family affected by the Coronavirus, the ICSE board will conduct the exams for those students in September 2020. Any which way, the ICSE board seems to be adamant about conducting the 10th and 12th board exams in July itself.
