Schools in Tamil Nadu have been ordered against asking students and parents to visit the school campuses for submitting the answer scripts for the schools to formulate the class 10 mark sheets. The order came from the Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE). Numerous schools reported that they don't have the answer scripts with them. As an alternative measure, they can now submit progress reports and mark registers, stated a senior official from the Education Department.
Since the class 10 board exams were abolished for the year 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students supposed to write their exams were decided to be awarded marksheets based on their attendance, half-yearly exams, and quarterly tests. While the half-yearly and quarterly exams account for 80% of the new grading pattern, the remaining 20% value is assigned to the attendance. In order to formulate the mark sheets, the schools were asked by the DGE to submit their students' answer scripts, report cards, and mark registers.
However, as many of the schools did not possess the answer scripts, they started asking the students and their parents to visit the institutions and submit the same.
“We do not want schools to violate physical distancing norms and call students and parents to their campuses. The department is ensuring that the process happens in a fair and transparent manner as well and will go through the records submitted by the schools,” said the senior official from the Education Department.
Regarding the students who could not write their Plus 2 exam due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the paper will be conducted soon. Schools have already been asked by the Chief Educational Officers to prepare and submit a list of the students who could not appear for the exam to the DGE by June 24. It is reported that on March 24, around 36,086 students in Tamil Nadu failed to appear for the Plus 2 exam.
