SSC Overview

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is an organisation working under the monitoring of the Government of India. The main motive behind establishing the commission was to recruit potential candidates for various posts for various Ministries and Departments and the subordinate offices of the Government.

The SSC body is an attached office of the Department of Personnel and Training, consisting of a Chairman, two members and a Secretary. In the year 1975, with recommendations from the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, the Government of India set up a regulatory body known as the Subordinate Service Commission. Later in 1977, this commission was renamed to the Staff Selection Commission. Every year, SSC conducts various examinations for various government posts and recruits candidates to gazetted and non-gazetted posts.
